Company Wellness Programs Reap Benefits

Workplaces have been proven to be great places to promote wellness.  After all, people spend more time at work than doing anything else.  Studies suggest that for every $1 invested in wellness, a company saves $3 to $5 in health and safety costs.  Businesses that invest in employee health reap financial rewards through savings on healthcare costs, disability pay, absenteeism, turnover and safety problems.

Buy Local: Keep Your Neighbors Working
Save Your Money, Shop McKinney

Shopping outside McKinney costs you money even before you open your wallet. If you calculate mileage along with your time, the numbers are shocking. Just to get an idea, we used IRS gas reimbursement standards (.55 cents a mile) along with the average amount of time and average wage ($15/hour) and came up with an estimated cost to and from the Chamber office to regional shopping areas. Here’s what we found:

NorthPark Center, $20.86, 25.2 miles/28 minutes

Galleria Mall, $22.72, 24.5 miles/37 minutes

Stonebriar Mall, $12.35, 13.7 miles/19 minutes

Save your money, shop McKinney and help keep your neighbors working. Every penny counts!

Chamber Staff Earns Credentials
Two staff members complete Institute for Organizational Management Training

Sharon Montgomery, IOM, Events Director and Lisa Ferrell, IOM, Communications & Public Policy Director both have graduated from Institute for Organization Management (Institute), a four-year nonprofit leadership training program.

“Institute graduates are recognized across the country as leaders in their communities,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, the U.S. Chamber’s vice president of Institute for Organization Management. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries.”

Since 1921, Institute has attracted association and chamber professionals from across the country to its five university sites. During the four-years, most Institute participants attend the one-week sessions at the same site, building valuable relationships with others in the industry. Through a combination of required courses and electives, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively.
